Music and Wine should be paired. We call this VINOMUSIC.
Saun & Starr & Vindie Wine 2014 Red Blend
It is a beautiful thing when two normally separate elements come together, despite the randomness of the universe, to form something new, different, and extraordinary. In this way, wine and music join together to sing in perfect harmony. Research shows that music can affect the way wine tastes; listening to music while sipping wine can highlight certain flavors in the wine. This unique sensory experience created by pairing wine with music is something in which Vindie Wine takes great pride. Relying on sensory science and music expertise, Vindie Wine take one’s sense of taste, smell, and hearing on a fantastic voyage by pairing their wine with songs from on-the-rise independent musicians.
One independent music group whose music takes Vindie’s 2014 Red Blend to new heights is Saun & Starr. This pair of soul singers, Saundra Williams and Starr Duncan Lowe, became fast friends as New York youths in 1986 and later sang backup for Grammy-nominated R&B artist Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. Their first solo album, 2015’s Look Closer, allows their silky R&B stylings to take the lead, rather than fall into the background. Saun & Starr’s voices are clear, bright instruments dazzlingly complemented by collaborators the Dap-Kings. A personal favorite cut from the album, the very jazzy song “Hot Shot,” was written by Sharon Jones’ and Saun & Starrs’ shared backing band, the Dap-Kings. Their flawless fusion of R&B, soul, and jazz mirrors the similar harmonious melding of coastal Pinot Noir, Malbec, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet in the Vindie Wine 2014 Red Blend.
There is a vibrant earthiness to the R&B vocals of Saun and Starr. This quality of the music serves as the perfect compliment to the earthy sweet and spice facets of the Vindie Wine 2014 Red Blend. You’ll taste aromas of violets, blueberries, and spice followed by an elegant palate of blackberry, black cherry, and mocha. Supple tannins add weight and a polished texture and lead to a bright, lush finish. This varietal consists of a proprietary blend of coastal vineyards, primarily Hames Valley (Monterey County) Malbec, Monterey Cabernet, Monterey Pinot Noir, and Lodi Petite Sirah. Oak: 40% new, 12 months, 60% French, 40% American.
