Music and Wine should be paired. We call this VINOMUSIC.
Rihanna & Luminary 2013 Red Blend
When it comes to the realm where art and commerce intersect, there can often be a bit of misunderstandings, glitches in communication, and disagreement on creative direction and ideas. No matter where you happen to call your place of work, in whatever field it may be, you are bound to come to the day when you just may not be on the same page as another in your field. This happens a ton in the entertainment industry, especially in music.
Let us use Rihanna as an example. With her eight studio album release, Anti, Miss Fenty is exploring a range of new sounds, both vocally and stylistically, along with growth as a woman and an artist. It is on this effort that she has multiple songwriting credits, which is completely new from the singer. There is so much emotion across the album, but one song I want to focus on is “Consideration”, which is both written by and featuring budding songstress & songwriter, SZA.
The song has a darker sound, sampling a slowed-down version of Common’s “Be”, paired up with boom bap production and deep bass. The lyrics really speak to the experience of an artist who is really on the road to making a name for themselves on their own accord, without the huge machine. Creative control seems to be the basis of this, which we see in lyrics like I got to do things my own way darling/ Will you ever let me/ Will you ever respect me? No. On the other hand, these lyrics can also bring light to any other situation, business-wise or romantically, where you are not getting the fair share of the bargain.
Now what to drink with the tune? A great choice is Luminary 2013 Red Blend. The wine is comprised of a blend of the following American Reds:
35% Cabernet Sauvignon; Pine Ridge Vineyards, Napa, CA
22% Petit Verdot; Pine Ridge Vineyards, Napa, CA
20% Syrah; Double Canyon, Horse Heaven Hills, WA
18% Zinfandel; Seghesio Family Vineyards, Alexander Valley, CA
4% Grenache; Chamisal Vineyards, Edna Valley, CA
1% Merlot; Pine Ridge Vineyards, Napa , CA
The multi-layered flavor of the wine is definitely moody and reflective with a little bit of spice; perfect for a night in listening to Rihanna.
