Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching.
At this point, you have probably already decided how you will treat your significant other. You made the reservation at the hottest restaurant in town with the oyster bar, and superb wine list. As with any special occasion, especially one that involves going out to a restaurant, wardrobe for the evening is incredibly important. What can you wear on such a romantic evening that will blow off your significant other’s socks? We’ve got a few ideas, but first, let’s get into the wine.
We recommend Folie a Deux 2013 Chardonnay as an excellent wine choice for a romantic meal. French for “a passion shared by two,” Folie a Deux’s 2013 Chardonnay was crafted with this focus in mind. It has rich and alluring aromas of velvety honey and lemon, with notes of pear, white peach and pineapple on the palate. The finish is rich with lingering hints of nutmeg and vanilla. You can’t get more seductive than that!
If you’re a man who is more of a traditional dresser, modernize a multi-purpose blue suit with some red accents. Go with a smart blazer in either blue or grey, paired with a solid pink or rose paisley pocket square. A slim-fit tailored oxford shirt in classic white or rose pink always looks sharp, especially when adding cufflinks. If you are not into suit pants, dark denim is a great alternative, making you look comfortably dapper. For footwear, we prefer a more formal brogue in black or camel. On the contrary, if your outfit is a bit more casual, go with a monk strap or loafer.
Men with height should try a modern extended toe box on a shoe to give your leg a longer look, and a more contemporary shape. The idea of infusing a little humor or exaggerated visual interest to a men’s suit has to be subtle.
Ladies, opt for a dress that narrows the waistline and keeps the “girls” at full attention, taking attention away from the hips. The iconic “wrap dress” by American fashion designer, Diane von Furstenberg fully embodies this flattering silhouette. If you have a larger bust, be sure to wear a well-fitting bra underneath your dress for a sleek look.
The color palette this season for evening-wear is flooded with shades of navy. Adding red as an accent to a neutral shade like navy, chocolate brown, or gray is a modern update to pairing red accents with black. With glasses of Folie a Deux in hand, your looks are sure to be a hit with your Valentine on date night. Enjoy it!
