There are times when the subtleties of product placement in films and television impacts an entire industry. When Carrie Brandshaw was seen eating on a cupcake while talking about her exploits in one episode of Sex and the City, the veritable cupcake wars began, sparking a number of venture backed cupcakeries.
Some product placement opportunities are more direct and this year marks 10 years since the premier of the film Sideways, which utilized the wine industry as its backdrop. What is interesting about this is how the economy of a region prospered and how businesses flourished based on the film, even over a decade later.
