Keeping It NY: Mayer Hawthorne x Boundary Breaks Wine at Hudson Hotel NYC

Over the past week, we have been kicking it around the country with one of our favorite musicians, Mayer Hawthorne, providing local wines for his listening parties for his forthcoming album, Man About Town. On the evening of March 16th, New York City got a taste of his new sounds at the Hudson Bar at Midtown Manhattan’s ever-popular, Hudson Hotel.
The hardwood floored lounge with eclectic furniture and chartreuse-tinged lighting provided a living-room atmosphere for the event. Fans could mix and mingle amongst themselves, as well as chat with their favorite musician, sans mobile devices, that were checked at the door.
Local wine was provided by Boundary Breaks, a producer of strictly Riesling based in Lodi, NY, in the Finger Lakes region. The company is unique in the fact that their wines are single vineyard Rieslings, produced by a multi-generational cooperative of farmers in the region.
As we were unable to have a rep at the NYC listening, I was on hand to tell the story behind the wines to Mayer, the bar staff, and all guests who had questions. Many were surprised that wine was produced in New York State, as the market is largely comprised of wines from California and Europe. In New York State, the key wine regions are in Eastern Long Island, and the Finger Lakes region in Central New York.
The no-nonsense wines paired seamlessly with the new sounds by Mayer Hawthorne, which blended soul, R&B, and reggae stylings. Both varieties proved to be a hit as we went through both cases that were provided for the event! The team at Hudson Hotel invited all fans to burgers post-event at Hudson Common, the hotel’s burger & beer hall with a sports bar feel for some good ‘ol March Madness basketball.
It has been and absolute pleasure to work with the Mayer Hawthorne team and Morgans Hotel Group for these super special, pop-up listening parties for the fans. Stay tuned for behind the scenes footage, and Mayer’s answer to who he would love to have Vino With!
